In conjunction with our current exhibition, ‘A (Mis)Perceived Physique: Bodyscapes of Three Women Artists’ the Target Gallery will be partnering with the Domestic Violence Program of Alexandria and The Clothesline Project to raise awareness during Domestic Violence Awareness month. ‘A (Mis)Perceived Physique: Bodyscapes of Three Women Artist’ is an exhibition curated by Kayleigh Bryant-Greenwell which explores the issues of equality, constructions of power, dominance, and memory.
The Clothesline Project is a nationwide project to created to raise awareness to the violence directed against women and to assist in the healing process by providing a way for people who are survivors or those who have lost a loved one to express themselves. Women are invited to decorate different color shirts that will be on display in various locations throughout the month.
The Clothesline Project will be on view in the Target Gallery on Thursday, October 13th, for the Torpedo Factory Art Center’s October Second Thursday Art Night event. Our hope is that we can raise awareness to this issue and promote the resources available to everyone at the Domestic Violence Program of Alexandria.
In addition, the Target Gallery will also be collecting donations for Home-Warming Baskets , where anyone can donate household items that will be given to families making the transition to a violence free home and a new life.
