Critically acclaimed percussionist Tom Teasley comes to the Torpedo Factory Art Center for a special one-night engagement.
Supported by a generous grant from the Alexandria Commission for the Arts, Tom will celebrate the cultural diversity of Alexandria, informed by his multiple tours as a cultural envoy for the U.S. Department of State. Performing with more than a dozen instruments from places as diverse as Africa, India, the Middle East, and Asia, his merging of digital technology with ancient instruments creates a performance that spans cultures and time. This performance will draw heavily from his recent tour to Korea and music for the Constellation Theatre’s forthcoming production of Journey to the West.
About Tom Teasley:
Described in the Washington Post as a “multi-instrumental genius,” Tom Teasley is a five-time recipient of the Fulbright-Hayes Award for historic performances in The Middle East, five-time nominee and two-time winner of the Helen Hayes Award, and three-time recipient of the Washington Area Music Award for World Music Instrumentalist. He was recently nominated for two 2016 Drummie Awards from Drum! magazine.
