Anthony Chukwudinma Nsofor has worked consistently in Painting and Photography since he graduated from the Arts Department of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1997. He was gallery manager at the African Foundation for the Arts, Lagos, and taught Art at The Whitesands School, Lagos. In 2007, he wrote for the art desk of The Comet Newspapers, Lagos. His essays on art have appeared in books and exhibition catalogs. His writing career led to him creating a blog in 2008.
Anthony's works ask questions of nationality, migration, and black identity. With a focus on the Black experience, his works delve into childhood memories of community, festivals, and rituals, celebrating shared spaces in Africa. The works become witness to a conscious inclusion in the performative arts. An avid traveler, he is fascinated by all the international cultural conversations.
His works have been exhibited extensively in Nigeria and internationally, appearing in art fairs ArtX Lagos, the New York Art Fair, the Dak’ Art Biennale, Senegal, etc. Anthony has frequently participated in the last two decades of exhibitions of the works of artists from the new Uli School, the name ascribed to the works of artists who studied at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka)
His works are featured in the US by Montague Contemporary, New York; at Galerie D’Art Houkami Guyzagn, Abidjan, Ivory Coast; and Oda Art Gallery, Lagos, Nigeria. Since 2020, Anthony Nsofor set up studios in the USA. He became a resident artist at the Torpedo Factory Art Center in 2022 and was elected Vice President of the Board of the Torpedo Factory Artists’ Association in 2023.
