The Torpedo Factory Art Center celebrates the legacy of women in the arts during Women’s History Month. Of the 132 resident artists in the Torpedo Factory, more than 100 of them are women. The night also features a host of new exhibitions, live music, button making, and a peek into the life of an Alexandria socialite who became a Confederate spy.
Paulette Palacios completes her three-month post-MFA residency at the end of March. Hear about the work she created during her time at the Torpedo Factory. She will touch on her work as a printmaker in relation to her heritage and her experiences as a young woman in the arts.
Torpedo Factory artist James Dean will describe how he started the NASA Art Program in a free public conversation in Studio 306.
An exhibition of student work will be on view in Studio 8 and the main hall for the culminating exhibition for the 2016 Mentor’s Program, organized and hosted by the Friends of the Torpedo Factory Art Center. Each of the participating students spent this school year partnered with one of the Torpedo Factory’s resident artists to develop their skills and techniques.

"Materialized Magic" is a community art project that provides free lessons, for people of all levels of experience, in crocheting, knitting, and felting. The workshop is lead by our 3rd annual CRAVE grant recipients, Erika Cleveland and Stacy Cantrell.
For Virginia Architecture Week, the Torpedo Factory Art Center will co-host a special reception and panel discussion with AIA Northern Virginia. The program focuses on the relationships between art and architecture.
