Washington DC ACM SIGGRAPH brings Augmented Reality to the Torpedo Factory Art Center

February 26, 2015 @ 7:00 am - 9:00 pm

Smithsonian Natural History Museum ‘Bone Hall’ Comes To Life (not just at night)

The Washington DC Chapter of ACM SIGGRAPH is partnering with the Torpedo Factory Art Center to host a presentation of how an innovative augmented reality tool developed for use in conjunction with the spectacular Bone Hall, one of the oldest and most successful exhibits, featuring approximately 300 skeletons of vertebrates that has its museum foundation dating back to 1881, is being brought to life.

On Thursday, February 26th please join us as the lead researcher Diana Marques provides an overview and details of the 3D digital experience known as augmented reality. This exciting technology allows the user to superimpose a virtual world onto the physical one. Also as part of the digital experience users can test their natural history skills playing games. Diana is pursuing a doctoral degree in Digital Media focusing on the use of technology and its visual narrative potential for the future of museums and science communication; her research is taking place at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History where Diana has collaborated for a number of years as a scientific illustrator and animator.

Please join us on Thursday, February 26, 2015 from 7pm to 9pm at the Torpedo Factory Art Center as we have the opportunity to hear how technology gives a 21st century experience to a 19th century museum exhibit.
