About the Torpedo Factory Art Center
Founded in 1974 in a former navy munitions plant, the Torpedo Factory Art Center is home to the nation’s largest number of publicly accessible working artist studios under one roof. The Art Center is part of the City of Alexandria’s Office of the Arts, a division of the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities. Just south of Washington, D.C., the Torpedo Factory Art Center overlooks the Potomac River in the Old-Town section of Alexandria, Virginia. Each year, more than a half million national and international visitors meet and interact with more than 165 resident artists in 82 studios and seven galleries. The Torpedo Factory Art Center is also home to The Art League headquarters and gallery, and the Alexandria Archaeology Museum. For more information, visit torpedofactory.org or follow the Torpedo Factory on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest via @torpedofactory
About the Vibrancy Initiative
The Vibrancy Initiative is the implementation of the Action Plan which demonstrates the City’s long-term commitment to the arts and maintaining the building as an Art Center with the highest quality artists. It provides direction for Torpedo Factory Art Center to become a 21st century, leading arts institution with a broad and deep connection to visitors, artists, and Alexandria residents, built on equity and high performance with a curated building of artists at its heart.
Special thanks to
The Factory Society
The Factory Society began as a young patrons committee of the Torpedo Factory and was launched as a separate and distinct nonprofit in 2017. Since then we have expanded our mission to include collectors of all ages.
We want to open collectors’ eyes to avenues of discovering affordable, original and local art. We hope this will empower them to feel more confident while buying it, and break down the barriers that prevent them from engaging with artists at galleries or shows.
Our vision is a more down to earth art world!
