An exhibition of student work will be on view in Studio 8 and the main hall for the culminating exhibition for the 2016 Mentor’s Program, organized and hosted by the Friends of the Torpedo Factory Art Center. Each of the participating students spent this school year partnered with one of the Torpedo Factory’s resident artists to develop their skills and techniques.
Meet the students and their resident-artist mentors for a reception on Saturday, April 9, 2 – 4 pm.
About the Mentorship Program
The program gives high school art students the opportunity to be mentored by a professional artist at the Torpedo Factory Art Center.
Students meet with their mentors in the artist’s studio at mutually-agreed times from mid-October to early April. The student must complete at least one work of art in consultation with their mentor that will be graded by their teacher. At the end of the program, there is an exhibit of the students’ artwork in the Torpedo Factory and a reception on the last day of the show.
This unique experience can help a student decide if they want to go on to study art in college and pursue a career in art, and provide a valuable addition to their college application.
