Arts & the Armed Forces

In honor of Armed Forces Day, salute our service men and women with an evening line-up of comedy, music, storytelling, poetry, and art. This event is in partnership with USO of Metropolitan Washington – Baltimore, The Armed Services Arts Partnership (ASAP), and Community Building Art Works.

Our Performers

AnnMarie Gonzales

AnnMarie Gonzales currently lives in Tysons, VA continuing to work for the federal government after service in the US Army. Her writing focuses on imagery and personal story telling.

Guadalupe Gutierrez

After serving in the Navy as a Hospital Corpsman, Guadalupe Gutierrez was medically retired. She moved to Southern California to pursue her dream of working with animals. She is currently enrolled at Platt College and is working on becoming a Veterinary Technician. She continues to express herself through art.

Belena Marquez

After medically retiring from the Air Force, Belena Marquez now lives in Las Vegas, Nevada. Her creative endeavors focus on recovery and healing as well as nature and motherhood.

Melanie Michel

Melanie is an Air Force veteran currently living in Arlington, Virginia.  She works as an Administrative Assistant at an environmental conservation firm, and is an avid supporter of ASAP and comedy in general.

Noah Miller

Noah Miller is a comedian who performs all over the DMV. He regularly does shows with the Armed Services Arts Partnership, and has performed at the Torpedo Factory Art Center.

Edwards Orosco

Staff Sergeant Orosco currently serves in the United States Army at Fort Belvoir. He has served for 13 years, with two tours in the Middle East. Growing up, he had two dreams — to be a soldier and to be a singer. After achieving his first dream, he is now working on the second.

 

Kelsey Storr

Kelsey Storr retired after 24 years of active service as a Navy Chief Petty.  Since retirement he has worked in the Defense industry as a Program and Project Manager.  Performing stand-up comedy started as a bucket list objective that has become a challenging passion. He is a Fall 2018 graduate of the Armed Services Arts Partnership.  He has performed throughout the DMV and has a Facebook Page (Kelsey’s Comedy Corner) and YouTube Channel (Kelsey A. Storr).

USO of Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore

USO of Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore (USO-Metro) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization chartered by Congress, and dedicated to “serving those who serve, and their families” in Washington D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia. Armed Services Arts Partnership

The Armed Services Arts Partnership (ASAP) is a DC- and Hampton Roads-based nonprofit with a mission to cultivate community and growth with veterans, service members, military families, and caregivers through the arts. We promote expression, skill-development, and camaraderie through classes, workshops, and performances across a variety of artistic disciplines. Our focus on consistent programs and partnerships ensures that members of our community have continuous opportunities for artistic and personal growth. Our approach provides participants with transferable life skills, a renewed sense of purpose, and improved well-being. At the same time, we strengthen ties between veterans and their communities through the arts.

Community Building Artworks

Community Building Art Works is a 501(c)3 charitable organization committed to building healthy and connected communities where veterans and civilians share creative expression, mutual understanding, and support.
