Every second Friday of the month through October 2025, the Torpedo Factory Art Center is open late and offering free events! As an official partner of the National Cherry Blossom Festival, this month we’re embracing the season with an evening of art, music, and creative energy.
Enjoy a variety of paper crafting activities, Japanese Koto performance, and special Cherry Blossom treats to kick off the season!
Koto Musical Performance
Near Torpedo, Grand Hall | 7-10 p.m.
Listen to the musical stylings of Yuriko Gandolfo of the Washington Toho Koto Society.
Origami Paper Folding
Grand Hall | 7-10 p.m.
Join origami artist Michiko Okuma in learning beginner origami folding techniques.
Cherry Blossom Ink Demonstration
Spiral Staircase, Grand Hall | 7-10 p.m.
TFAC artist Saya Behnam will demonstrate creating inks and paste colors from different Cherry Blossoms flowers and plants in our area. She will show visitors how various shades can be created by adding mineral salts or natural additives and test colors on paper and silk.
Lotus Lantern Crafting
Studio 9 | 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. start
Our current post-grad artist, Sookkyung Park, will lead workshop participants through creating a small lotus lantern using paper. Participants will learn craft techniques that combine creativity and functionality while exploring the cultural and historical significance of the lotus.
Archaeology in Bloom
Grand Hall | 7-9 p.m.
Apply your own temporary flower blossom tattoo in the style of transfer printed ceramics. Archaeologists have studied a variety of ceramic wares and decorative techniques in Alexandria ranging from the 18th – 20th century. Use a scope to take an up-close look at how these designs were made on similar artifacts found in Alexandria. The activity will take place in the Alexandria Archaeology Museum on the third floor of the Torpedo Factory Art Center.
Positivity Blossoms Communal Artwork

Join the Mobile Art Lab in crafting a communal art wall, made of cherry blossom notes of positivity.
