Meet the artist and learn how to recycle a water bottle into a fun gift for Mother’s Day!
“Batik silk painting while living in Paris was my best learning experience of laying color on color. Taking silk dying classes gave me the opportunity to explore the many techniques of dying different kinds and weights of silk. Traveling to new towns and cities gave a fresh view of the many different details of buildings and structure and surface textures. Light, sun and even rainy days on my walks gave such a crispness to the most simple setting. All was inspiring my work. After settling in the Washington D.C. area, I decided to present a collection of work to the jury of the Torpedo Factory . I was accepted and have made art raincoats, jackets and many types of handpainted and shibori pleated silk wearables.
On March 28, 2016, Gloria received the Donna Bergheim Cultural Affairs Award as part of Alexandria’s Commission for Women’s 36th Annual Salute to Women. Gloria was recognized for her contributions to our Torpedo Factory Art Center community. Thanks, Gloria, for your hard work in helping to make the TF the vibrant art destination in Alexandria that it is today.”
