Join Alexandria Archaeology at their museum on the third floor of the Torpedo Factory for a discussion on the update of the ship discovered on the Waterfront late last year. Learn about 18th century ship construction as well as the circumstances and efforts behind the ship’s sinking, discovery, excavation, recovery, and conservation of this 200+ year old vessel.
Presentation will be given by City of Alexandria Archaeologist Benjamin Skolnik at 7 P.M. and 8 P.M.
Starting on April 12, Archaeologists will be removing the ship’s timbers from their storage tanks for a week of documentation and study before re-submerging them. You have a unique opportunity to see the elements of the original ship and watch Alexandria’s archaeological team document the individual pieces. Special behind the scenes tours are being offered April 14-16 before the ship is moved to a more permanent storage facility. Please go to https://shop.alexandriava.gov/Events.aspx to sign up today!
