LIGHT AT PLAY comes to the Torpedo Factory Art Center for an afternoon celebration of art, music, dance, and light.
Performances include Jane Franklin Dance, the Francis C. Hammond Middle School Orchestra, The Alexandria Singers, The Dance Studio at Hollin Hall, cellist John Kaboff, and the St. Petersburg Duo, an ensemble of The Washington Balalaika Society.
The free program will feature the Radiance Orb, a large geodesic globe that flashes and dances with color in response to music and motion.
2015 is UNESCO’s International Year of Light and Light-Based Technologies. The Radiance Orb was exhibited at the opening ceremonies in Paris in January at the UNESCO Headquarters and is being presented in Washington, D.C. at a September 12 event sponsored by the National Academy of Sciences and the National Science Foundation.
This event is organized by the Friends of the Torpedo Factory Art Center in partnership with the Torpedo Factory Artists Association, The Art League, and the Torpedo Factory Art Center.
