Let’s rethink the way the arts are funded!
The Torpedo Factory Art Center and Convergence Arts Initiative bring together innovators with arts enthusiasts and supporters to fund new creative endeavors during CRAVE.
Now in the fourth installment, CRAVE (Creating Resources for Artistic Vision and Engagement) has granted about $3,500 to creative projects in the region. Similar models exist across the globe, but CRAVE is the only active micro-granting dinner series in the greater Washington, D.C. region.
Every attendee has a chance to make an impact as a patron of the arts.
Four presenters share information on their arts-related projects and how they will benefit the community. After sharing a meal together, everyone votes. The chosen presenters receives an on-the-spot grant at the end of the night. The sum is dependent upon the funds collected through the $15 ticket sales and additional donations. The more people in attendance, the larger the sum.
The dinners also create a dynamic space for community involvement in the projects being presented. This public buy-in generates greater understanding of—and support for—the arts in our society.
