FREE Workshop
Join us in studio 9 for an intimate workshop exploring the healing art of collage through sewing, using personal family items, fabrics, and photographs. Participants are invited to stitch into photos and familiar textiles with the aim of mending intergenerational, family trauma and reconnecting with their selfhood. Through the integration of generational keepsakes such as the family photograph, we will delve into a creative process that honors lineage, culture, and the restoration of personal and collective histories.
Kat Thompson will be providing images that she uses in her own practice, highlighting moments in Black families from decades past, and participants are encouraged to bring their own photos and beloved garments in need of mending, such as an old baby sweater or a family quilt. Participants can expect to learn simple needlework techniques while they mend photos and fabric items in a communal, conversational, and healing setting.
No RSVP required but please be on time to stay most of the workshop.
