NYFA is pleased to present this free online workshop in partnership with the Office of the Arts, City of Alexandria, which will cover the key written and verbal elements essential for communicating about your creative practice. Whether you’re working in the visual, literary, or performing arts disciplines, being able to speak and write about your work effectively unlocks opportunities. Yet, it can be a difficult and intimidating process to distill everything you do into a few simple words. Presenter and NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellow Brigitta Varadi knows this firsthand, and is here to walk you through the process–drawing upon both her empathy as a fellow artist and experience as a Residency Director at ChaShaMa North.
This workshop will cover:
- How to use written and verbal tools to harvest opportunities, cultivate and grow your network, and connect to people who can support your work
- Key do’s and don’ts of writing an artist statement and bio, including exercises to help you develop both
- What jurors and panelists look for when reading over an artist statement and speaking to artists
- The value of authentically articulating your creative practice
