Attention to Detail, an exhibition in TAG (The Associates Gallery) by Torpedo Factory Artists’ Association members Dennis Crayon and Meg Talley pairs the nostalgic paintings and photo transfers of of Crayon’s Remember When series with the botanically-inspired jewelry of Talley’s Persistence collection. The show will be on on display from November 2 – November 26. An opening reception will be held on November 9 from 6:00 – 8:30 pm.
Remember When
Growing up, Dennis Crayon remembers doing chores to earn a little spending money, including doing the dishes nightly with his brother. The allowance earned from his chores allowed Crayon to save money for a trip to the Schaghticoke Fair in Upstate New York. This annual event was highly anticipated each year as the end of summer approached. His current series, Remember When, is a collection of photo transfer and oil paintings based on rides at the Fair.
Crayon, who often paints photographs and memories with trompe-l’œil, revisited photo transfer work earlier this year. Crayon juried into the Torpedo Factory Artists’ Association in March 2017. He is currently working in Studio 225. He is an active member in the DC area artist community and a member of The Art League Gallery and the Arlington Artists Alliance. His work can also be seen at the John Zaccheo Fine Art Gallery in Manchester Center, Vermont.
Persistence
Meg Talley’s process-driven exploration leads her to create artful jewelry emulating fine detail in nature. By making hundreds of tiny pieces and arranging them in delicate compositions, simplicity is multiplied to complexity. The resulting jewelry feels like clusters of seeds, leaves, and grasses. Inspired by recent travels, Meg expands her moody, blackened silver visual language with fresh botanically-inspired shapes. The jewelry in the Persistence collection is presented alongside snapshots of her inspiration— plants overcoming built environments.
Meg Talley also juried into the Torpedo Factory Artists’ Association in March 2017 and is working in Studio 209. She trained in Industrial Design and Metalsmithing at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA. Under her jewelry brand Meg by Hand, she meticulously handcrafts her pieces in sustainable fine metals using green studio practices.
