Potomac Fiber Arts Gallery announces the opening of the juried show “Patterns Abound” on August 29, 2017. The show closes on October 1.
We perceive, create, and use patterns every day. Patterns in nature, in industry, and those created by chance; repeating decorative elements; guides to making—all serve as inspiration for this show’s theme.
In their statement, jurors Carol Brobst and Annalisa Leonessa commented on the abundance of wonderful themed pieces. They selected for special recognition Eileen Doughty’s wall hanging, “The Faults in Our Stars,” which captivates with the beauty of the natural-looking ginkgo leaves; Paige Garber’s scoured and clamped shibori jacket for its unusual method of creating a pattern—reminiscent of those found in nature—on a beautiful garment; and Joyce Keister’s screen-printed, stamped, and monoprinted blouse, “a delight to the eyes.”
