In 2014, The Art League, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, celebrates 60 years of bringing art to the community through their school, gallery, store, and outreach programs.
From leading the establishment of the landmark Torpedo Factory Art Center to expanding programming to fill 10,000+ class seats annually, the League now engages over 1,000 artist members, attracts 72,000+ visitors to its gallery, and has achieved national recognition for its outreach.
The Art League Gallery provides a gathering and exhibit space for the visual arts community of Alexandria and the greater Washington, DC region. The Gallery offers camaraderie and fellowship to more that 1,000 artists of all media and skill levels. Veteran or amateur – anyone can become an artist member. Here, emerging artists can see their works featured in the Gallery’s monthly shows, or work toward installing a Solo Artist exhibit. Each month brings new exhibits and new opportunities for artist members to submit their works to be juried and considered for exhibition.
The Art League School offers classes and workshops in virtually every area of the fine arts to students of all ages and artistic skill levels. Open to all, nearly 7,000 students enroll annually, filling over 10,000 seats in classes. Novices find a welcoming and supportive environment while seasoned students are challenged to learn new techniques. Professional, highly qualified artist instructors teach all classes and workshops. Travel Workshops are offered domestically and internationally to exciting locales with our talented faculty. The School’s focus is on personal enrichment through the arts rather than a degree – all courses are non-credit.
Many events, special exhibits, and collaborations take place throughout the year, including the popular annual Patrons’ Show Fundraiser, the biennial Ikebana Show, the Ice Cream Bowl Fundraiser, Art on the Rocks, and Artfête Holiday Open House.
The Art League Supply Store, staffed by knowledgeable working artists, provides artists with exceptional quality, low priced art supplies. As a convenience to our students, members, and supporters, supplies and materials requested by Art League instructors are sold here.
Using the visual arts as a catalyst, The Art League reaches out to the under served in the community through their outreach programming.
