THREESOMES — Fine Art Photography By Maureen Minehan

May 13, 2014 - June 22, 2014

From The Three Muskeeters to the Three Wise Men to Goldilocks and the Three Bears, the number three has magical powers in the human subconscious. In her new work, Maureen Minehan examines the power of three through sets of three standalone images, asking viewers to consider whether the sum is greater than the parts. Do the images strengthen each other? Would the addition of another diminish their power? Would separating them leave them wanting in some way? Viewers are also asked to explore the elements required to make threesomes effective — what is the anchor that holds these images together? Is it something physical, such as color or composition, or is it something evoked, a hint of emotion, a whisper of a feeling?

Maureen Minehan is a fine art photographer based in Washington, DC. A juried member of Multiple Exposures Gallery and the Torpedo Factory Art Center, she works digitally in both color and black-and-white.  She is drawn to isolated elements in both intimate and grand landscapes and her images often reflect themes of quietness and solitude. Some of her imagery incorporates textures to further her vision.

An artist reception will be held Sunday, June 1st, from 2pm-4pm in Studio 312.
