DESCRIPTION:How much should I sell this for?—a question nearly every artist has asked themselves. This question can be tricky\, as not only is it difficult to quantify the value of art\, but the art market is unique in that it doesn’t follow the same rules and logic of typical sales. New Orleans\, LA) earned her BA from Southeastern Louisiana University in 2008\, and in 2010 she earned her MFA from the New York Academy of Art. Elbers has shown her work nationally at places such as Bernarducci Meisel Gallery\, Flowers Gallery\, NY\, The Lodge Gallery\, Island Weiss Gallery\, Storefront Ten Eyck\, and Southeastern Contemporary Art Gallery. She has been featured in publications including Gagosian Quarterly\, The Huffington Post\, T Magazine\, Fine Art Connoisseur\, ApartmentTherapy.com\, Buzzfeed.com\, The Brooklyn Rail\, Artsy\, and Hyperallergic. Elbers lives in Bushwick\, and aside from her studio practice\, she is the Director of Exhibitions at the New York Academy of Art. At the Academy\, Elbers oversees all exhibitions and sales as well as producing the Academy’s biggest fundraisers Take Home a Nude and Tribeca Ball. \n  \n \nPaul Efstathiou–Director of Contemporary Art\, Hollis Taggart Gallery\nPaul Efstathiou is the Director of Contemporary Art at Hollis Taggart Gallery in New York City. Efstathiou is a second-generation art dealer and curator with 20 plus years of experience. Efstathiou has developed a well-trained and prescient eye\, making him a successful dealer and curator of contemporary art. Paul is on the board of directors at the MoCA Westport Museum in CT. He has worked closely with 60 plus emerging and contemporary artists to date. He currently resides in Southport\, CT with his wife and two children. \n  \n \nLouky Keijsers Koning – Director\, Barbara Hammer Estate and Principal\, Keijsers Koning Appraisals\nA Dutch native\, Louky Keijsers Koning has been active in the New York contemporary art world since the early-2000s She started out as an independent curator\, continued to manage several contemporary art galleries before she founded LMAKgallery in 2005\, which she co-owned with her partner Bart until 2019. Through the gallery\, she was able to place artists’ works in various private and public collections such as the Guggenheim Museum\, the Whitney Museum of American Art\, the Contemporary Museum of Photography\, the Rhode Island Museum of Art\, the Contemporary Museum of Photography\, the Minneapolis Institute of Art\, El Museo del Barrio\, and the Kadist Art Foundation to name a few. \nShe currently serves as the Director of the Estate of Barbara Hammer and is the principal of Keijsers Koning Appraisals\, which offers art appraisal services for the purposes of charitable donation and gift tax; martial and equitable distribution\, estate tax liability and insurance\, including damage & loss. DESCRIPTION:Courtney Kolker (studio 4)\, 2022 presentation \nIn February 2023\, Torpedo Factory Art Center announced its 2nd Open Call for Artists. The Art Center accepted applications for Resident Artists – \nindividuals or groups of up to four – who will earn three-year studio leases and Artists Pro Tem – individuals who will earn the ability to sublease and participate in the Art Center programing. You may read more about the application process here. \nThe application is in three Phases. Phase III\, the final stage\, is non-blind and considers the applicants’ artwork in person\, and their ability to speak about and present their artwork. \nEach application offers a 5-minute presentation to the jurors where they expand upon notions found in their artist statement and process statements. Presentations are free and open to the public.  Jurors will score their presentation and artwork to add to the final score of the application. \nAttendees are requested to maintain quiet during the presentations and while entering/exiting the room.  Note: the presentations may end early if all applicants are finished presenting. \n

She has served on the Support for Individual Artists committee of Grantmakers in the Arts (GIA) and was Director of Frederico Seve Gallery/Latin collector in her previous role. \n  \nMatthew Seig–Media Specialist\, NYFA Fiscal Sponsorship \nMatthew Seig is an experienced producer and production executive for film and television\, director of documentary films\, film programmer\, exhibitor\, and rights licensor. He has directed or produced over a dozen films for theatrical and television distribution\, both documentary and narrative\, some of which have received Grammy\, Emmy and Academy Award nominations. He has programmed art houses and festivals\, serves as the Executive Director of the Rivertown Film Society in Nyack\, NY\, and he has managed libraries of media copyrights including those belonging to the late producer/director Robert Altman. Seig helped establish the Altman Archive at the University of Michigan\, and edited a book about Altman’s life and films that was published by Abrams Books in 2014. \nFor NYFA and with support from the National Endowment for the Arts\, he produced a series of interviews with independent filmmakers on the subject of building audiences—one of the many skills that funders look at when considering financial backing for a filmmaker—that were conducted by Eugene Hernandez (then at Film Society of Lincoln Center\, currently the director of the Sundance Film Festival). In recent years\, Seig has spoken about and moderated panels on fundraising for filmmakers at The Foundation Center\, Producers Guild of America\, Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema\, and others. \nThese opportunities are presented in partnership between the City of Alexandria’s Office of the Arts and New York Foundation for the Arts. \n \nNew York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) is a 501(c)(3) service organization that provides artists\, emerging arts organizations\, arts administrators\, and students with critical support\, professional development tools\, and resources for defining and achieving career success. DESCRIPTION:Scope artists take various forms of the ceramic medium—some chemistry of ground-up rocks\, minerals\, and water—to create works that have widely different properties and finishes. Consider tossing rock salt into a red-hot kiln; horsehair on vessels just lifted from the kiln; placing an object straight from the glowing kiln into a bed of straw\, sawdust\, or even seaweed. This August\, our artists demonstrate the results of firings with salt\, soda\, raku kilns\, smoke firing\, and other ingenuous techniques. Featuring the Ceramic Guild.

Composers Brandon Hale and Tanner Upthegrove reimagine and depict Distributed Denial of Service attacks (DDoS) through the innate human ability to detect auditory patterns\, both temporally and spatially. With this musical arrangement\, you are at the center of a cybersecurity attack where each sound is either a piece of data or an attack. \nBrandon Hale\, Tanner Upthegrove \n  \nMUSICAL CONNECTION\n2 minutes\, Audio and Video\, 2022\nThrough an artistic blend of neuroscience\, music therapy\, and cutting-edge sonification technology\, Musical Connection installation sheds light on the uncharted neural territories that music traverses when people engage in music-making. You hear audio generated from electroencephalography (EEG) data in a sonification process. This audio is spatialized around the listener to display the data from sensors worn by a Music Therapist\, overlayed with audio from a trial music therapy session with research assistants from Virginia Tech. DESCRIPTION:The art of ceramics is a combination of making mud pies and crushing rocks. Clay is a refined mud pie. But creative hands-on play is hardly confined to childhood. From coiling\, working with slabs to throwing on the potter’s wheel the tactile and malleable properties of clay is what draws the ceramic artist to use this medium. From mud pies come unlimited forms in a range of finishes. Come to the gallery this month during Arts Safari (date to be determined) and touch the clay that ceramic artists use in creating their work and see what it means to ‘pinch a pot’.
