SUMMARY:Burnt Orange
DESCRIPTION:Shino-glazed sculpted torso by Elke Seefeldt of Arlington\, Va. \nWarm dwelling oil on canvas by Brianna Camp of Fairfax\, Va. \nTorched landscape inspired woodfired trough vessel by Brian Grow of Alexandria\, Va. \nIn a retrolicious twist\, artists are following the Fall colors\, centerpiecing richly warm hues. \nArtists singe edges and add highlights with burnt orange. Sculptures are awash with a toasty\, roasty touch and paintings are accented with scrumptious pumpkin. \nBold and brassy finishes make for flashy tablescapes and interior touches. Find sunburnt mugs\, overexposed trays and winsome dishware of wild clay. \nThe unexpected\, contrary color is showcased in animals and plants. Redheaded pandas\, foxes\, goldfish and tigers blend with shades and vessels for candied carrots\, kumquats and mandarins. See prints and still-life compositions with deep daubs of rust and vermillion. \nKilnformed glass “Ring of Fire” bowl by Sandi Martina of Woodbridge\, Va. \nBellied mug by Scott Kaye of Arlington\, Va. \nPersimmons persist and tiger lilies abound. Place bittersweet in a vase with a warm iron oxide finish\, chrysanthemums in crystalline vessels and tuck an orchid or air plant into a handmade hanging sconce. Original oil landscapes and portraiture glazed in warm afternoon rays abound beside brilliant sprigged and splashy dimensional wall tiles. \nEmbrace the hot color and serve orange lentils or a side of jammy yams in a functional\, handmade side dish. Find a server that compliments melony hues or a pitcher that screams citrus. Go retro with jello salad\, jiggles or shots offered on an amber abstract kilnformed glass for a throwback buffet. \n“Crafty Master” Chinese brushpainted fox maple ink on rice paper by Tracie Griffith Tso of Reston\, Va. \nSip a spritz and drink the Kool-Aid in Shino-glazed tumblers and offer a sunset toast to autumn artisanals. \n3-D gallery Fire On Studio 22 offers various treatments of glass\, pottery and more on the first floor of the Torpedo Factory Art Center 11  a.m. to 6 p.m. daily and will be open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday September 12  for the Torpedo Factory Art Center’s  Late Night September event. The gallery’s “Burnt Orange” show runs September 1 through 30\, 2025. \nBring home an original from potters Brian Grow @b.d.grow Scott Kaye @scottkayepottery Bikki Stricker @cerambik Elke Seefeldt @rayelke Tracie Griffith Tso @traciegriffithtso and glass artist Sandi Martina @sandimartina_glass. SUMMARY:ToySphere: Reuse\, Replicate\, Reimagine
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition: ToySphere: Reuse\, Replicate\, Reimagine\n\n\nWhat if your forgotten and unused toys could live again in virtual reality? Could that help you let go of them and pass them on to another friend? \nMany families keep unused toys hidden in closets\, drawers\, and boxes for years. This phenomenon\, known as product hibernation\, reduces opportunities for reuse and sharing—both of which are vital for a circular economy. Toys often carry deep emotional meaning\, uncertainty about where to share\, concerns about cleanliness or safety\, or not knowing who will appreciate the toy’s story. If we wish to keep value alive\, we need gentler pathways. Sharing must be easy\, trusted\, and meaningful. \nToySphere is our interactive platform that addresses this challenge. We 3D-scanned 33 disused toys and transformed them into virtual replicas—each with its own story and character. By reconnecting with these digital versions\, we explore how virtual preservation can sustain emotional attachment while encouraging families to make timely decisions about sharing before toys lose their relevance or value. \nPresented by the City of Alexandria’s Office of the Arts and Virginia Tech’s Institute for Creativity\, Arts\, and Technology.

SUMMARY:Got Gothic?
DESCRIPTION:Chug grog\, spiced cider\, stout or dark beverage of choice in a stoneware tumbler by Scott Kaye of Arlington\, Va. \nPlunge into mystery and an edgy aesthetic as craft descends into shadows with “Got Gothic?” creations for a otherworldly October at Fire On Studio 22. \nArtists bring black into the foreground with pitchy paintings\, goth glass and dramatic ceramic forms and finishes. Neutral gets the nod as makers shun color. Raku pottery echoes smoke and scorch with firings resulting in carbon black and monochrome marbled finishes. Creatures of the night crawl the walls of the gallery. Spy sneaky ghoulish faces in glass marbled in oynx and opal. \nCultivating subculture\, creations have Victorian accents blended with dark allure. Imprinted vases\, freeform vessels beguile yet are soul-stirringly solemn. Crystalline bursts erupt out of the depths of glaze and seductive figural abstracts beckon a body in sculptural statuettes. \nMidnight Luna moth original oil painting on an arched canvas by Brianna Camp of Fairfax\, Va. \nFill a black heart with unconventional functional and sculptural concoctions like marbled rocks that rattle\, stoneware sipping cups dripping with jet and architectural sculptural forms with dusky pitfired finishes. \nGo with grim glam in interior decor and spine-tingling original oil painted compositions that subdue hues and favor stark contrast. \nOut creeps the black cat\, rat snake and praying mantis. Striking luna moths flutter onto canvases\, bats hang out and birds alight with shady plumage. \nConsider ‘Shady Character\,’ an ink on rice paper black cat artist-signed limited-edition print by Tracie Griffith Tso of Reston\, Va. \nSee fantastical artifacts from the creative cauldron. Haunt our space\, this is prime time for treats\, trickery and exhuming eerie\, irresistible curiosities. \n3-D gallery Fire On Studio 22 offers various treatments of glass\, pottery and more on the first floor of the Torpedo Factory Art Center 11  a.m. to 6 p.m. daily and will be open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday October 10  for the Torpedo Factory Art Center’s  Late Night October event and will offer a Play with Clay table at Art Safari\, Saturday October 25 Noon to 4 p.m. The gallery’s “Got Gothic?” show runs October 1 through 31\, 2025. \nBring home an original from potters Brian Grow @b.d.grow Scott Kaye @scottkayepottery Bikki Stricker @cerambik Elke Seefeldt @rayelke Tracie Griffith Tso @traciegriffithtso and glass artist Sandi Martina @sandimartina_glass. SUMMARY:Burnished Light: An Enamel Jewelry Plus Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Burnished Light illuminates the transformative power of fire and metal through contemporary enamel jewelry. Each piece captures the moment where heat coaxes color into brilliance — glowing gradients\, molten edges\, and metallic luster frozen in time. From soft\, smoke-washed hues to radiant\, mirror-bright surfaces\, the collection invites viewers to experience light as texture\, as heat\, as memory. \nThis exhibition\, hosted at the Enamelists Gallery in Studio 28 at the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Old Town Alexandria\, runs from November 1 through November 30. It showcases wearable artworks that shift with motion and spark curiosity\, revealing intricately layered craftsmanship beneath their polished shine. Burnished Light is a celebration of resilience and radiance — where flame shapes beauty\, and light becomes something you can hold.
