DESCRIPTION:Exhibition Dates: Saturday\, February 24 – Sunday\, March 3 \n“Within Seconds”\, a performance by Naomi Le: Saturday\, February 24\, 2 PM \nReception & Artist Talk: Sunday\, February 25\, 2-5 PM \nThe Torpedo Factory Art Center presents a culminating exhibition showcase for the 2023 Post-Graduation Residency cohort: Lianna Zaragoza\, Wes Holloway\, Kyle Scadlock\, Naomi Le\, and Lucas Rougeux\, on view in the Overlook Room\, located on the third floor of the Art Center\, Room 325. \nThe Torpedo Factory Art Center Post-Graduation Residency is a competitive juried program that provides meaningful support and a three-month term studio space in the nation’s longest continually operated community of publicly accessible artists’ studios in a converted industrial space. The work on view in this exhibition will spotlight the work and creative endeavors these five residents created during their three-month residency in Studio 319 and Studio 9. \nPlease join us during opening weekend for Naomi Le’s performance\, “Within Seconds” on February 24 and our reception and artist talk on February 25! \n(exhibition catalog coming soon!) \n

DESCRIPTION:Exhibition Dates: December 17 – January 21\, 2022\nArtist Talk: Friday\, January 13\, 2023 \nThe Torpedo Factory Art Center presents the culminating exhibition for the 2022 Post-Graduate Residency co-hort: Mrinal Joshi\, Julia O’Bryan\, Kamille Jackson\, and Kiel Posner on view in Target Gallery.  \nThis residency provides a unique experience at a critical juncture in an emerging artist’s career after they graduate their BFA or MFA program\, allowing them unlimited studio access and the ability to engage with the community outside of academic context. The work on view in this exhibition will spotlight  the work and creative endeavors these four residents created during their three-month residency in studio #319. \nJoin us for a reception and artist talk on Friday\, January 13!  \n2022 Post Grad Residency Exhibition Catalog \n  \n\nAbout the Artists \nMrinal Joshi • January – March\nSpring Hill College\, 2018\nB.F.A.s in Studio Art and Graphic Design\nWebsite: 111rinal.com\n@111rinal\nMrinal Joshi is an artist and graphic designer based in Washington\, DC. Born in Kathmandu\, Nepal\, he emigrated to the U.S. at the age of 14. Mrinal’s artistic practice lies at the intersections of his lifelong fascination with culture and the collective consciousness. \nThe lighthearted synthesis and juxtaposition of classical western art and contemporary visual culture seen in his work become a vehicle to explore the temporal nature of existence with the digital era as the backdrop. His approach to and philosophy on artmaking is a meditation on mortality and change. \nMrinal holds two degrees in Studio Art and Graphic Design from Spring Hill College (2018). He has participated in several juried exhibitions throughout the country. Mrinal is currently a graphic designer with the in-house creative team at the Nature Conservancy. In his free time\, he can be found reading\, cooking\, going to museums\, hanging out or simply vibing. \n  \nJulia O’Bryan • April – June\nSouthwestern University\, 2019\nB.F.A.\, Ceramics\n@juliacreates\nJulia O’Bryan is a graduate of Southwestern University in Georgetown\, TX. Her work stems from her childhood growing up in southwest Missouri as well as from her struggle with an aggressive auto-immune disease. Her work is an accumulation of her experiences; from her childhood\, from her struggle with an aggressive autoimmune disease\, all of the things that have made her who she is. Based on the destroying and scarring found throughout her lungs and body from her struggle with her autoimmune disease\, the coral is a reflection of the beauty that can be seen through decay. The wide range of color throughout the coral on her work is meant to reflect the passage of time through the “bleaching” effect it creates. Gold accents throughout the work is meant to draw attention to the beauty in the human body over time and the beauty through brokenness that can occur throughout life. \n\n\n\nKamille Jackson • July – September\nGeorge Washington University’s Corcoran School of the Arts and Design\, 2021\nM.F.A.\, Studio Art\nWebsite: kamillesimone.com\n@ka_milleeee\nKamille Jackson is an interdisciplinary artist from northern Virginia. In her work\, cosmic colors meet checkerboards from a long-gone suburban counterculture and symbols plucked from astrology and spirituality-based imagery. Floating and loosely abstract pictures form from the amalgamation of texts conjured by black conceptual artists\, desert transcendentalists\, and queer media. Through her work\, Kamille builds a queer\, black\, mystical iconography with drawing\, painting\, writing\, and embroidery. She earned an MFA from George Washington University’s Corcoran School of the Arts and Design and a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University. She recently shared a visiting artist lecture with the graduate students at Massachusetts College of Art and Design and received the Outstanding MFA Award as a participant in the Next Exhibition. She has exhibited work at The Garden\, Target Gallery\, Anderson Gallery\, Studio 23\, Bronx Art Space\, Gallery 5\, Richmond Library\, and the Refinery Space. Commissions include Justin Allen’s Black Boots’ Ekphrastic Punk EP\, Afropunk\, Elbowroom\, and Gallery 5. \n\n\n\nKiel Posner • October – December\nVirginia Commonwealth University\, 2020\nB.F.A.\, Craft and Materials Studies\n@kiel.posner\n\nArtist Bio \nKiel Posner is a queer Jewish ceramicist currently living in Bethesda\, Maryland. Their work investigates the legacy of the button factory their great grandfather worked his way up to owning after immigrating to NYC\, from Eastern Europe\, in 1912. 109 years later\, after producing for Macy’s and Disney\, what’s left of the now defunct factory are some ceramic decals and a dusty kiln. Kiel received their BFA in Craft and Materials Studies in 2020 from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond\, VA. While in Richmond they were awarded a Fellowship from the Virginia Museum of Fine arts and rented space at Shockoe Bottom Clay. Since relocating to the DMV\, they have started teaching ceramics classes at Vis Arts Rockville and The District Clay Center. \n  \n\n\n2022 Residency Jurors \nJordan Brown (she/her) is the current Director of Education and Programs at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond (VisArts). She spent her childhood in Minnesota\, but now considers Richmond her home. She has a B.F.A. from Virginia Commonwealth University in painting and printmaking and a Masters in Arts Administration from Goucher College. She is currently a board member of Partners in the Arts. She has a special fondness for all things printmaking\, and still has her own art practice outside of her role in VisArts’ education department.  \nOshun Layne (she/her) was born and reared in Brooklyn\, NYC with a passion for visual arts and its ability to communicate a sense of inclusiveness across cultures\, genders\, and generations. Over the last decade\, she has developed and nurtured an extensive career in arts leadership that includes institutional\, gallery\, and non-profit project management experiences. Through arts education\, programming\, artist development\, strategic partnerships\, and mentorship\, she has been successful in bringing multicultural and multidisciplinary art forms to diverse populations. Most recently\, she has carved out her curatorial imprint in museums and galleries regionally\, working with scores of local and international artists.  \nGraduating from Howard University with a Bachelor’s degree in anthropology\, Oshun’s educational and professional journey lead to her becoming the Director of Galleries for Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation. In this role\, she increased regional audience participation and engagement by supervision of exhibitions and programming in multiple venues such as Rush Arts Gallery in NYC\, Corridor Gallery in Brooklyn and Rush Arts Philly in Philadelphia\, PA. Prior to Rush\, she coordinated arts education programs where she oversaw the administration of educational volunteers\, docents and interns for the High Museum of Art in Atlanta.  \nOshun is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Urban Policy and Planning with an emphasis on Non-Profit Management at Hunter College. Merging cultural studies\, art\, and policy\, she seeks to create innovative pathways to bridge gaps between urban communities and private interests with a focus on arts awareness\, cultural competency\, and community partnerships.

Since relocating to the DMV They have started teaching ceramics classes at Vis Arts\nRockville and The District Clay Center. \nArtist Statement \n“Glitch” is defined as a minor malfunction. A word now inseparable from popular vernacular is derived from the Yiddish Glitsh meaning “slippery place”. \nIn my most recent body of work\, I have been collaging the waterslide decals remnant from the factory on mass-produced second-hand ceramics creating glitchy surfaces that are intended to challenge the viewer’s sense of focus. \nI want to confront the viewer with optical illusions that play on their sense of trust. The same lack of trust I feel when double-taking at reports of demands for book burnings and new alternative “sides” of Holocaust being added to curriculum. I am stuck in a slippery place\, submerged in an untrustworthy information-hungry culture that pines for my attention while trying to erode my own history. \nIn attempts to translate this dishonesty and slippage in canon\, I have become very interested in techniques of Trompe l’oeil and Op art as avenues for making work that pushes back against the viewer’s gaze\, staring back and concealing information. I never realized the truth is such a Glitsh and I hope to bring to light the warps and mistakes usually camouflaged. \n\nAbout the Residency \nLocated in Torpedo Factory Art Center’s Studio 319\, this competitive juried residency provides meaningful support to emerging artists who have recently completed formal academic training in the visual arts. It is an opportunity to address the critical post-graduation juncture in an emerging artist’s career. \nResidents have three months of exclusive access to a studio in the Art Center. Therein\, they can create and sell work\, interact with the public\, and connect with other arts professionals. It’s an opportunity for professional development\, networking\, and a chance to define a practice outside of the academic context. \nApplications are open to recently graduated students who earned a bachelor’s or master’s art degree from an accredited university. Submissions were accepted from across the U.S.\, provided artists submit proof of their permanent residence in the area and/or commitment to contributing to the future of the region’s arts scene. \nLearn more about the 2022 cohort and previous years here.

In 2016\, she graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art\, with a BFA in General Fine Arts. Accessibility to art is a key part of her creative process. Her overall focus is to encourage empathy\, wonder\, self-reflection\, and connection. During the residency\, she will continue documenting her coming out story. She will create a stop-motion animation promoting her graphic novel aimed at helping parents of color to understand and accept their queer children. She hopes contribute proceeds from sales to National Queer Asian Pacific Islander Alliance and True Colors Fund. \nKim has worked at the Hirshhorn Gallery and the Phillips Collection\, observing how art is presented and digested by its audience. She is presently a guide at Glenstone Museum’s Emerging Professionals Program\, where she facilitates discussions about contemporary art. She has shown work at 7Drum City\, Uptown Arthouse\, SAMASAMA\, Womxn Fuck Shit Up\, and Arts x Action.

Hear her speak about how her residency inspired her work and process\, what she’s done during her time\, and what she will be doing next. \nJoin us in the main hall of the Art Center for her talk at 7:00pm and then a mingle and jar opening in the Post-Grad studio #319 after the talk is over. \nAbout the Artist \nNava Levenson is a multidisciplinary artist\, instigator\, and collaborator based in Richmond\, Virginia. She completed her bachelor’s of fine arts in 2017 from James Madison University. Her work investigates anthropological concepts such as hospitality\, labor\, consumption\, and space making. Nava incorporates re-purposed materials in much of her art in an effort to chip away at the surplus of objects that crowd the planet. \nDuring her residency\, she plans to invite artists from the Art Center to participate in her ongoing project\, Practice Preserves: Studio Dirt. In the same way thrift stores reveal things about American culture\, she seeks to archive artists’ practices. She invites people to add studio scraps and discarded material in quart-sized canning jars\, which she then opens\, catalogs\, and photographs for an anthology she hopes to publish. She already received a starter grant from Specto Artspace and this residency will allow her to advance the project. \nAbout the Residency \nThis competitive juried residency provides meaningful support to emerging artists who have recently completed formal academic training in the visual arts. It is an opportunity to address the critical post-graduation juncture in an emerging artist’s career. \nResidents have three months of exclusive access to a studio in the Art Center. Therein\, they can create and sell work\, interact with the public\, and connect with other arts professionals. It’s an opportunity for professional development\, networking\, and a chance to define a practice outside of the academic context. \nApplications are open to recently graduated students who earned a bachelor’s or master’s art degree from an accredited university. Submissions are accepted through Sunday\, September 22.

She recently completed her bachelor’s of fine arts in 2018 from George Mason University. Through her art\, she works through conflicting thoughts she has about her sexuality\, body insecurities\, and feelings of oppression. During her residency\, she will explore less comfortable themes with exaggerated and even grotesque work. \nThough Michaela was born in Alexandria\, she grew up in Forssjö\, Sweden\, and lived there until 2008. She has been active in the Alexandria visual arts community for many years\, exhibiting work at The Art League Gallery and Delray Artisan Gallery\, as well as other locations in Northern Virginia including Richard J. Ernst Community Cultural Center in Annandale and Epicure Café in Fairfax.

Hear her speak about how Alexandria inspired her work and process\, what she’s done during her time\, and what she will be doing next. \n2 pm – 3 pm\nRSVP\n  \nKelly Johnston explores identity by utilizing natural materials\, employing their forms and textures. Her intuitive practice draws on her own lived experiences. She creates sculptures and installations\, often casting human figures\, to encourage her viewers to reflect on their own personal histories. Her sculptural works have branched into two major forms: 1) Exploring body discomfort by incorporating different organic materials such as hair\, palm fiber and oxides into finished pieces. 2) Including man-made objects to create physical presence that resonates with viewers. \nDuring her residency\, Johnston challenged herself to explore new ways of making her castings and installations in order to be innovative and expressive of her ideas. \n\nKelly R Johnston \nOriginally from Washington\, D.C.\, Johnston completed a bachelor’s in anthropology and in studio art at Trinity University in San Antonio\, Texas. Johnston has exhibited internationally. Her work explores inherent tensions between emotional and physical discomfort. By using natural materials on large scales to create sculpture and installation\, she hopes her viewers connect and address issues in their own lives. Her use of the human form can be seen as a common theme throughout her work\, along with incorporating mixed-media to create visceral environments. \n

DESCRIPTION:Post-Grad Resident Sara Roberts offers the third and final workshop in her series. \nWorkshop will run from 3-5pm in the Post Grad Studio (Studio 319) at the Torpedo Factory Art Center. \nDress code: Casual \nAll ages \nSpace is limited\, so RSVPs are encouraged to ensure participation. \nRegister\nSara Roberts\nSara Roberts’ sculptures capture the dynamic nature of 21st Century womanhood. As the socio-political landscape in America changes\, so do definitions\, concepts\, and expectations. Her work documents this evolution. \nSara is influenced by personal experiences as well as conversations with other women. The body casts serve as a direct representation of the female form\, while the application of mixed media is designed to capture the metaphysical quality of the experiences. The artist attempts to put form to the indescribable and abstract. Ultimately\, her goal is to create sculptures that incite dialogue and undercut the anxiety that often results from a renegotiation of social boundaries. \nThe selected mediums often lie in contrast to one another. The softness\, femininity\, and domesticity associated with fabric juxtapose the hard\, masculine\, and industrial quality of the casting materials: concrete\, resin\, metal\, ceramic slip. The viewer is intended to explore the different\, perhaps opposing facets of 21st Century womanhood. \nThe Post-Grad Residency\n \nThe Post-Grad Residency is a competitive juried program that provides meaningful support and 3-6 month term solo studio space. This residency is open to recently-graduated students who earned a bachelor’s or master’s art degree from an accredited university. DESCRIPTION:Post-Grad Resident Sara Roberts offers the second of her workshops. \nConcrete Eggs: The egg form has become a staple in Sara‘s work. The body casts serve as a direct representation of the female form\, while the application of mixed media is designed to capture the metaphysical quality of the experiences. SUMMARY:Workshops: Between the Lines with Lyric Prince
DESCRIPTION:Post-Grad resident\, Lyric Prince\, conducts a series of workshops designed in her studio space. Meet the artist in person and learn more about her creative process. Each participant gets a unique art piece of their very own. \nWorkshops will run for one hour in the Post Graduate Studio (Studio 12) at the Torpedo Factory. \nRSVPs are encouraged to ensure participation. \n\nSaturday\, March 17\, 2-3 pm\nSaturday\, March 24\, 2-3 pm\n\nRSVP here \n  \nAbout Lyric Prince \n  \nLyric Prince creates symmetrical geometrically inspired digital and analogue art that often touches on racial and physical dysmorphia. Her work calls to a need to recognize and identify patterns of all types in every day life\, and juxtaposes them in kaleidoscopic and repeating forms. Her use of bold colors and sharp\, contrasting lines construct an environment that will immerse and gradually split apart the subject at hand\, drawing the subject into a gradual progression of increasing abstraction. She often takes drawings and paintings and digitally rearranges parts into something new. This process allows her to recycle art and ideas\, as she may have several reuses from one piece. Her work becomes a self-regenerating kaleidoscope of inspiration. \nDuring her residency\, Prince would like to engage the public about art appreciation at the Torpedo Factory. She’d also like to use the space to complete several large kirigami (cut paper) sculptures. \nBorn and raised in Richmond\, Virginia\, Prince received her bachelor’s of fine arts from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia and recently completed a master’s in science\, technology\, and society from Drexel University in Philadelphia. Her interest pertains to cultural anthropology\, specifically on how art can be designated for political and personal representation. Her practice is project-specific and often includes digital installations\, paper sculpture and art criticism. She currently lives and works in D.C.

She is an instigator\, a writer\, a co-conspirator\, a participant\, an enthusiast\, and a collector. When she’s not doing strange things in the name of art\, Liz Georges is the Associate Director of Communications for North American Climate Change Policy at The Nature Conservancy.

DESCRIPTION:As her winter 2017 residency comes to a close\, interdisciplinary artist Fumi Amano will share about her inspirations\, her work during her studies at VCU\, and her time at the Torpedo Factory Art Center. \nJoin us on Friday December 15th to view her latest works up close and experience an original performance by Fumi at 7pm. Then come back at 8:30pm for a half-hour conversation in her studio space on the 1st floor. Part of an evening of artists talks and receptions for our Late Shift: STEAM-Powered December\, 7pm – 11pm. \n\n \n\n\nThe building will stay open until 11pm\, with three floors of art\, music\, and hands-on projects to explore.\n\n\n \n\n\nPerformance in Studio: 7pm\n\n\nOpen Studio: 8pm – 8:30pm\, 9pm – 10pm\n\n\nArtist Talk: 8:30pm – 9pm\n\n\n \n\n\n  \nRSVP for the Artist Talk here \n  \nAbout Fumi Amano \n \nA native of Aichi\, Japan\, Fumi Amano seeks to do new and creative things with glass and demonstrate new possibilities within the medium. Amano entered graduate school to expand her expertise with glass as a medium\, but her work shifted more into the conceptual space as she began using her art as a primary means to express her emotions\, given English is her second language. Her work is inspired by her strong desire for intimacy as well as a deep sense of loneliness. She is obsessed with communicating with others and creates work that elicits visceral\, gut emotions in her audience. Amano’s work Look at Me was featured in the Target Gallery group exhibition Please Touch in June 2016. Viewers were invited to lick the frosted glass pane to reveal themselves to a person on the opposite side. \n  \n\n \n(Fumi Amano\, Look at Me\, 2016) \n\nDuring her residency\, Amano hopes to collaborate with local artists to integrate into her glass house project\, in which she hosts performances in a house she creates from reclaimed window frames. Through her work\, she also hopes to address some of the gender and racial stereotypes that she’s encountered as a Japanese woman in America. \n  \nAmano completed her undergraduate studies in art education at the University of Education in Aichi before refining studies of her medium at Toyama Institute of Glass Art in Toyama\, Japan\, and at Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood\, Washington. Amano has won several awards including best student work at Niijima Glass Art Festival in Tokyo and also at Pilchuck Glass School. Her work was selected at the International Exhibition of Glass in Kanazawa\, Japan; the Contemporary Glass Triennial in Toyama\, Japan; and the Itami Craft Triennial in Osaka\, Japan. She has shown her work in group and solo exhibitions in both the U.S. and Japan. She completed a master’s of fine arts program at Virginia Commonwealth University in spring 2017.

SUMMARY:Lindsay Hall: Post-Graduate Resident Talk
DESCRIPTION:As Lindsay Hall wraps up her time in the Post Graduate Studio (Studio 12)\, we invite you to join us for a reception and artist talk\, moderated by artist Danni O’Brien. Hear about the “tubes and sacks” she’s had on view in her studio and what she hopes the next chapter has in store. \n7:00 Reception\, 7:30 Talk\nRSVP here \n  \nLindsay Hall \n  \nI create colorfully titillating pieces that engage the notions of pleasure\, beauty\, and the perverse as they relate to the body\, sexuality\, and the intimacies and vulnerabilities of human interaction. The resulting pieces and installations fantasize these shared human experiences\, often sugarcoating shame and disgust with a provocative playfulness\, and the occasional glitter bomb. The forms are reminiscent of bodily orifices\, hair\, and luscious fleshy lumps. Superficially\, my work serves as eroticized eye candy\, but further inspection suggests the layered innuendos and the juicy persuasions. Desire and temptation become valuable components for experience and interpretation. The work is sensuous in nature\, often provoking haptic responses. My interdisciplinary practice fuses sculpture\, painting\, installation\, and drawing. I source an eclectic range of materials including silicone\, fiber\, foam\, spray paint\, and glitter\, as well as repurposing found objects. Contrasting textures\, forms\, and materials are combined in reference to binaries: attraction/repulsion\, feminine/masculine\, hard/soft\, interior/exterior\, beautiful/grotesque. \n  \nDanielle O’Brien \n  \nDanielle O’Brien is an artist and educator born and raised in the D.C. metro area. Currently an educator in Fairfax County\, O’Brien strikes a balance between her passion for art education and advocacy with an active interdisciplinary studio practice. Her work\, based habits of collecting and compiling\, grapples with notions of childhood\, play\, and sexuality. O’Brien has shown regionally at McLean Project for the Arts\, The Target Gallery\, and The Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art\, and more broadly\, at The University of Cincinnati\, Women Made Gallery (Chicago)\, and the International Museum of Collage\, Assemblage and Construction (New Mexico). She has returned to the DC area after pursuing an artist residency at Proyecto Ace in Buenos Aires\, Argentina and another at Art Farm in Marquette\, Nebraska. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Lindsay Hall: "Play with Clay" Demonstration
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Second Thursday Art Night: Collage/Melange as our Summer 2017 Post-Graduate Resident\, Lindsay Hall\, offers an artist demonstration in her studio and talks up her creative process with visitors. \nThis is an interactive demonstration of how to make homemade play dough using four safe and accessible ingredients for a fun hands-on recipe. Visitors are welcome to make their own play dough during the demonstration. Be prepared to get a little messy! Afterward\, participants are welcome to dye it to their desired color using food coloring. This play dough will dry on its own in about three days if left out\, but if kept in an airtight container it can last for up to three months. Play with your dough immediately or package it and take it home to play with later! Keep refrigerated for best results. \nAbout Lindsay Hall: \nA West Coast native\, Lindsay Hall is currently based in Arlington\, Virginia. She received a MFA in Painting from Indiana University in 2016\, as well as a BFA in Painting and Drawing (2012) and a BA in Journalism and Media Studies (2010) from the University of Nevada\, Las Vegas. Her work has been exhibited nationally at venues such as the Janet Kurnatowski Gallery in New York\, the New Hampshire Institute of Arts\, and Kent State University in Ohio and will be featured in a summer 2017 issue of Studio Visit magazine. Lindsay Hall has co-curated group exhibitions in Indiana and New York. She received the Ilknur P. Ralston Memorial Award in Visual Arts in 2016.

SUMMARY:Samantha Sethi: Post-Graduate Resident Talk
DESCRIPTION:As her post-graduate residency comes to a close\, Samantha Sethi talks with moderator Lisa Dillin about her experiences during her time at the Torpedo Factory. Hear her speak about how Alexandria inspired her work and process. \n7:00 Reception\, 8:00 Talk\nRSVP here \nSamantha Sethi \nSamantha Sethi sees our world as a landscape that is both inhabited and studied by humankind\, altered even as it is observed. It’s both the location and the material of our pursuit of meaning. She blends the physical with the digital in her work. In using natural materials like ice\, tar\, and sediment\, and processes like melting and erosion\, she creates works that are both action and images. She records the work in video and also draws or traces it to represent it through time. \nDuring her residency\, Sethi pursued the further potential of this work through drawing\, digital works\, and physical installation. \nSethi is currently based in Washington\, D.C. She completed her master’s of fine art at American University in May 2016. She is currently teaching art as an adjunct at AU and will teach at George Washington University in Spring 2017. Sethi completed her bachelor’s of fine art at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Her work has shown in New York\, Washington\, and Berlin and has appeared in publications including The Washington Post\, Time Out New York\, and Studio Visit magazine. Sethi was awarded a Mellon grant in 2015 as well as the Elizabeth Van Swinderen Award in 2016. \n\nLisa Dillin \nLisa Dillin is a Baltimore-based artist working in sculpture as well as participatory art practices. Her work utilizes a variety of processes including wood and metal fabrication techniques as well as digital photography to create objects or experiences that act as a surrogate for the ephemera of nature. These objects and experiences aim to fulfill a need for the user residing in the built environment while pointing out that a man-made substitute cannot adequately quell the desire for contact with the original. \nDillin earned her BFA in photography from Atlanta College of Art in 1998 and her MFA in sculpture from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2006. Her work has been selected for exhibition at various venues including the Baltimore Museum of Art and The Contemporary Museum in Baltimore\, MD\, Hamiltonian Gallery and Washington Project for the Arts\, in Washington\, D.C.\, Vox Populi and Practice Gallery in Philadelphia\, PA\, as well as Nurture Art and Transmitter in Brooklyn\, NY. Art fairs include the Select Art Fair in NYC\, Aqua Art Fair and Artist-Run Art Fair in Miami\, FL. Dillin was a 2012 Sondheim Prize Finalist\, the second place prize winner of the Trawick Awards in 2014\, and a 2014 as well as 2017 MSAC Individual Artist award recipient. Dillin is currently the Project Director for the CHM Sculpture Park and Fellowship Program. \n  \n  \n
