Washington DC ACM SIGGRAPH: An evening with Paras Kaul and the Boolean Girl Project

bg_logo_smThe Washington DC Chapter of ACM SIGGRAPH is honored to present an evening with Paras Kaul and the Boolean Girl Project.

Paras Kaul is world recognized as a leader in her field of experimentation with brain to computer interface technologies (BCI) for interactive gaming —intended to train the brain for learning and rehabilitation.

She will present her teaching experience with The Boolean Girl Project — a project designed to give young girls the opportunity to learn basic programming skills and empower them to pursue technology careers with the confidence and passion to express their creativity in professions related to information technology. Bridging STEM and STEAM education, The Boolean Girl Project lays a foundation for girls to become programmers and engineers by creating multiple avenues for learning technological and engineering skills through affordable computer systems like Raspberry Pi for after-school enrichment classes. In these classes, girls learn to program animated stories and games using Scratch and Python programming, while also building electronic devices like alarm systems and game controllers.

Please join us on Thursday, March 24, 2016 from 7 pm to 9 pm to see the software in action and discuss the importance of providing girls with the skills and resources to pursue opportunities in computing fields.

This program is presented as part of the Torpedo Factory Art Center’s Community Partnership Program.

Salon: An Artful Conversation

Judith HeartSong’s Salon: An Artful Conversation is a monthly meeting of artists, writers, and arts professionals who come together to bond, network, and get out of their heads for a little while. It is a conversation, a support group, sometimes a counseling session, always a networking extravaganza, an experimental lab for new ideas, and a place to learn and grow by leaps and bounds as an artist and professional.

We feature amazing speakers from the metro area and beyond who come to share their wisdom and expertise. In April, artist and web designer Todd Baxter Dawson  joins us to discuss the importance of your online presence and why it’s an essential element of your art business.

Salon has been running successfully in Maryland for more than three years and is now a monthly First Thursday event at the Torpedo Factory Art Center. Bring a store-bought dish to pass or beverage to share, and come be a part of the conversation!
