40th Anniversary Celebration

We’ve come a long way since 1974! Join us to celebrate our Ruby Anniversary with a mural unveiling, new exhibition, and cake!

It’s Time to Unveil the Mural!

You’ve seen Torpedo Factory artist Rachel Kerwin diligently drawing and painting on the walls in the riverside entryway for several weeks now. Rachel’s mural is part of the Torpedo Factory Art Center’s 40th anniversary year. Come to June’s Second Thursday Art Night as we celebrate its completion!

6 pm: Remarks will begin by the riverfront entrance. Alexandria Mayor William D. Euille and other community leaders will join us to mark the momentous occasion. Birthday cake to follow.

Target Gallery Public Reception: The Alexandria Community Art Library

In 1974, a bunch of savvy artists embarked on what was supposed to be a three year trial run. They created what’s become an Alexandria landmark. As part of its 40th anniversary year, the Torpedo Factory Art Center has a special exhibition on view in the Target Gallery to honor the center’s long history as part of the Alexandria community. The Alexandria Community Art Library is an interactive community exhibition that encourages visitors to explore, discover, and even contribute content.

7 pm: Hear Curator Roman Petruniak’s presentation on the many treasures to be found in this site-specific installation.

The Alexandria Community Art Library is on view through Sunday, July 13.
