Julia Dzikiewicz was born in Baltimore, Maryland and has been a resident of Fairfax County almost ever since. Dzikiewicz works exclusively in the medium of encaustic, using it to paint, to print, and to construct three-dimensional objects. Her work reflects an interest in history and the depiction of suffering in art. Byzantine Art and Christian Iconography often guide her work, resulting in art with bold colors, flat images and inclusions of crystals, pearls or metals. Her usual themes are political, such as global warming and Feminism, Currently, she is mining her personal history to create a new powerful series of work that is both humorous and painfully honest, based on her present relations with her family and her childhood memories.
