Marie Collier hails from the coal fields of West Virginia. Seeing the world through a veil of coal dust, road dust, and soot from coughing chimneys, she was compelled to break from this gray mode to paint with bold, intense, pristine color. The greatest joy for her in painting is the manipulation of color.

Her journey with art began one month after she was graduated from high school when she painted her first oil landscape. She was hooked for life! With her love of art always foremost, she has continued to study art throughout her lifetime, including extensive studies in art history, drawing, painting, design, and printmaking at two universities and at The Art League in Alexandria, VA.

Participating with art associations and guilds, she has served as a gallery director, advisor to art students, show judge, and guest artist to demonstrate art techniques to other artists.
