JoAnn Clayton is an intuitive non-objective abstract expressionist who enjoys applying many layers of acrylic paint to achieve richness and depth in her paintings. She has exhibited widely internationally as well as nationally, and her work has been included the State Department’s Art in the Embassies program. She studied painting at the Corcoran School with Sam Gilliam, at the Yellow Barn Studio with Helen Corning and Walt Bartman, at ArtWorks with Brenda Belfield, and with many of the talented artists at the Art League. She holds a MA from George Washington University.

In addition to her colorist work, she has created a series of very large, black and white works that can be viewed on her website. In September 2011 she can be visited as artist in residence at the Glen Echo Stone Tower. Her works range in price from $250 to $3,500.
