The Five Senses is an exhibition that incorporates
two or more senses (touch, taste, see, smell and hear).
The physicality of this exhibition aims to engage and stimulate
the viewer through works that address all aspects of human
sensation. Our juror, F. Lennox Campello, one of the most
visible art personalities in the Mid Atlantic will be providing
a gallery talk during the reception on March 13 at 7pm.
From over 140 entries, he chose 23 artworks by 17 artists
from all over the country.
The
work ranges from a drawing depicting blindfolded men leading
each other over an edge into total darkness, a breathing
and pulsating blob made of glass, a “Fresh Breath”
assemblage, to interactive works that include “Thought
Stimulators” and an “Idea” tube. It is
clear that Campello had a great time selecting a wealth
of work that encompasses a large sampling of art that incorporates
multiple senses whether literally or conceptually.
The
Target Gallery, national exhibition space of the Torpedo
Factory Art Center, is located on the waterfront in Old
Town Alexandria at 105 North Union Street. Gallery hours
are Wednesday – Sunday 12pm- 5pm and every second
Thursday of the month until 9pm.
