No creative writing experience required! Join Community Building Art Works for our monthly community building creative writing workshop in partnership with the Torpedo Factory Art Center. November’s workshop will be led by poet Jeanann Verlee.
About the series
Led by accomplished authors, these generative workshops focus on the craft of writing as a tool for introspection, communication, and connection. Bring a pen, a notebook, and an open mind! Tickets are free, but a donation of $10-$30 would to support CBAW programs. All donation will fund similar workshops at military hospitals.
This month’s facilitator
Jeanann Verlee is a poet, editor, and former punk rocker who collects tattoos and kisses Rottweilers. She is a 2017 National Endowment for the Arts Poetry Fellow and the author of three books: prey, first runner-up for the Benjamin Saltman Poetry Award (Black Lawrence Press, 2018), Said the Manic to the Muse (Write Bloody Publishing, 2015) and Racing Hummingbirds, silver medal winner in the Independent Publisher Book Awards (Write Bloody Publishing, 2010) She has also been awarded the Third Coast Poetry Prize and the Sandy Crimmins National Prize for Poetry. Her work appears in Adroit, BOAAT, Rattle, PANK, VIDA, and BuzzFeed, among others, and has been anthologized in various publications, including Uncommon Core: Contemporary Poems for Learning and Living, The Courage Anthology: Daring Poems for Gutsy Girls, and Looking for the Enemy: The Eternal Internal Gender Wars of Our Sisters Anthology. She was first runner-up for the Indiana Review Poetry Prize and has received multiple nominations for the Pushcart Prize, Best of the Net, and Bettering American Poetry.
