Shiho Rice: Quietly Cutting Through

July 9, 2015 - August 3, 2015

“Having lived in both North America and Japan, my artwork is an expression of my own perspective of mixed cultures.”

Kirié is the Japanese artform in which a single piece of black paper is cut to create an image, resulting in a piece that can look at first glance like an ink drawing or a woodcut. With this simple material Rice creates complex and surreal worlds of mystery and delight.
