“Frozen Music,” New Works by Alan Sislen

June 24, 2014 - August 3, 2014

In this exhibit, Washington D.C. based photographer Alan Sislen visually explores through photography the relationships between two arts – music and architecture.  The German writer and philosopher, Johann Wolfgang Von Gothe wrote, “Music is liquid architecture and architecture is frozen music.”  Many of the terms that describe one art, describe the other – rhythm, proportion, harmony, tones, textures, shapes and repetition.  The photographs in this exhibit either mimic the ebb and flow of the architecture as if it were a musical composition, or demonstrate the interplay and juxtaposition of one architect’s creation with others, and how these parts come together to create the composition of the whole scene.

This exhibit runs from June 24th until August 3rd, with an opening reception on Sunday, June 29th from 2-4pm.
