I work in a variety of materials; terra-cotta
clay, limestone, cement, plaster, bronze and other metals.
I have completed work for local homes, businesses, buildings
and organizations including The U.S. Treasury, Potomac Hospital
and the U.S. Olympic Team.
My education was as an industrial designer.
But rather than this being a "negative" in my life
as an artist, I would say this puts me ahead of traditionally-trained
artists in many ways. I learned so much about so many different
subjects. I worked for a historic iron-works, I designed for
DuPont, XEROX, Boeing Helicopters and NASA. I transitioned
to focus more on graphic design and marketing, working for
many companies in the DC - NOVA high-tech community. I did
everything from designing award-winning packaging and products
to explaining how complicated satellite systems worked through
illustrations. I developed logos and branding for companies
and products. Through this varied and unusual career path,
I was exposed to such a wide variety of building techniques,
manufacturing processes, science, materials, research challenges
and budgets -all things that play into ANY project large or
small.
I am not strictly a "realist"
-an artist creating classical or realistic artwork. I have
in my portfolio what would be considered abstract artwork,
influenced by my graphic design background. I completed seventeen
modern metal sculptures for Potomac Hospital in 2006. I also
paint in acrylics. I am currently painting one of the longest
realistic murals in the United States located here in Alexandria,
about George Washington. You can go to www.GWMural.com
for more information about this exciting historic project.
I have only been on the third floor in
studio 336 since 2004, but I have over 18 years of experience
working with clients on custom projects. If you are interested,
stop by and I'll explain the process of creating a custom
piece for your home or business. The typical price range for
artwork for sale in my studio is from $75 to $1500.
