Viviane de Kosinskyis a master
etcher who uses Rembrandt's method of freehand line drawing
directly onto copper and zinc plates, treated with nitric
acid. A select few of these black-line original etchings are
painted in watercolor with very small brushes, creating mixed
media works in the tradition of hand-tinted 19th and 20th
C. book illustration. Each painted work is unique.
Trained by Swiss, Italian and American
professors, Ms. de Kosinsky has lived abroad in Italy and
London for a number of years. She holds academic degrees in
Printmaking and Illustration from the Rhode Island School
of Design, the Villa Schifanoia Graduate School of Fine Arts
in Florence, and the International Graphics Institute in Venice.
Her love of graphics and architecture led to studying photography
in Florence, and she has maintained a darkroom for over 30
years alongside her home studio.
Specialty subjects reflecting the most
enjoyable ingredients in her creative and personal life include
Paris, Italy, English gardens, cats and dogs, café
scenes, theatres and chefs. Her etchings have won numerous
awards worldwide and she is an exhibiting member of numerous
international art societies. In 2004 she received an Award
of Excellence from the World Federation of Miniaturists at
the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC.
